Headway OM-180 Yasuo Momose

2021 Headway OM-180 Yasuo Momose

Modeled after a 1934 Martin OM18, this is a very nice prewar style OM made by veteran guitar designer and luthier Yasuo Momose in Japan.

Specs / Measurements

  • 2021

  • Adirondack spruce / Honduran mahogany

  • ~1.71” nut

  • ~25.4” string length

  • ~2.21” string spacing at saddle

  • Soft V neck profile

  • Prewar style forward shifted bracing

  • Prewar style through saddle

  • Gotoh tuners

  • Original hard case, truss rod wrench

Condition / Setup Notes

Excellent; There are two impressions in the top and a series of scratches on the back photographed that could be pointed out, but otherwise it’s in very clean shape with only minor sings of handling. Set up nicely at the moment with string height about 5/64” at the bass and just below 4/64” at the treble, and just a tiny bit of relief in the neck.

***

Yasuo Momose remains a big presence in Japanese luthiery even after his recent passing in 2024. He made a number of these prewar style guitars toward the end of his career, and they reflect the decades of experience and knowledge he had acquired. This one is modeled after a 1934 OM18, and aims to retain the spirit of the original while incorporating some modern functional aspects such as an adjustable truss rod. It has a strong, open sound, and is a delight to play.
