Condition / Setup Notes

New; The guitar has never been owned, and is in beautiful shape, but was a show guitar and there may be the slightest handling wear evident in its delicate (but acoustically lively) oil finish. There are two short surface cracks in the side by tail, shown in the last picture. It is largely a consequence of the high-figure in the wood and deemed stable, left as it is. Currently set up with string height about 5/64” to 4/64”, with just a touch of relief. The saddle height is adjusted with a hex wrench, which turns smoothly and is a nice departure from the typical thumb-wheel design.

***

Fernando has said that his guitars are designed to be 100% acoustic and 100% electric. I have found that this is a great way to describe his work, which starts with the foundation of a beautiful acoustic sound that is built upon with an equally thoughtful pickup system, designed and built in-house. It has a notably full bass response as far as archtops go, with brightness, clarity, and a taut, fast response and feel. The pickup system has both a magnetic and piezo component, and can be blended together or used separately. Such a satisfying experience to play this contemporary archtop made by Fernando Jaen in Spain.
