2020 Paul McGill Super Ace Brazilian 635mm

While a guitar from Paul McGill is always a treat, this one has a lot going for it that makes it even more so. Perhaps most notable is the 635mm scale, a rarity among builds that tend to be more like 655mm. Also adding to the package is a very nicely-grained set of Brazilian rosewood, Baljak tuners, and a BAM High Tech case.

Condition / Setup Notes

The guitar remains in excellent shape, with only minimal wear visible in raking light. There is a scratch on the tail by the jack, which is pictured. String height is a very comfortable ~2.5mm to 2.0mm from bass to treble; it measures low but the feel is great. It doesn’t take but a light touch to get a lot of sound. There is minimal relief, which is adjustable with a truss rod.

***

Paul McGill’s background in classical guitar making is evident from the first strum. It’s a rare guitar that delivers so satisfyingly with the sound, while also providing a more contemporary outline and vibe. While the Super Ace has been designed with professional stage performance and sound reinforcement in mind, the sheer sound of it as acoustic instrument will amaze you. There is a reason that this long-time luthier has become so celebrated in the world of classical and nylon string guitars. I have to add also that the case itself is a bit of rare beauty, I don’t think I’ve seen another BAM or other quite like it.
