Parker Fly Deluxe Purple Sparkle
Parker · 1995
This is a refinished Fly Deluxe, but an incredibly cool one at that. Makes you wonder how purple sparkle wasn’t an original finish! Basically this is a fully restored Fly, with all original function. There are some non-original parts however, as will be detailed below.
Specs / Measurements
1995
Poplar / Basswood
Parker Nitefly gig bag
Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent(+); There is basically no wear on this guitar, and it is fully functional. It had some work done to get this way:
-Purple Sparkle refinish
-Replacement of ribbon cables, preamp, a few switches
-New Graphtec nut (sculpted into Fly shape, as the nut shelf after refinish became a standard footprint)
-Aluminum step stop made for this guitar
-Red LED missing
The bridge is a little bit higher than usual, but nothing too outlandish. It was speculated that a neck joint repair before the refinish may contribute to this. But, there’s no indication of this anywhere else, and currently it plays cleanly up and down the neck at the low string height of 4/64"-3/64".
The truss rod is all the way loose, and set up with 10s and a 10 spring, the relief is minimal, and where it needs to be. It’s possible that 9s will not flex the neck enough, but this is unverified.
The trem arm may be a reproduction, but is a properly sized hex version that is intended for the pre-refined models. All the knobs other than the stacked piezo control knobs, was 3D printed.
Additional Thoughts
This started as a purple sparkle refinished shell, that deserved to be brought back to life. While there are some peculiarities to it, it is now a fully functional Fly in terms of electronics and playability. Another aspect of the refinish is that the back of the neck was made satin, which feels nice. In many aspects, a Fly that is somehow cooler than the original.
