John Buscarino Cabaret Nylon
John Buscarino · 2025
Another great Cabaret from the workshop of John Buscarino, and from a very recent year.
Specs / Measurements
2025
Cedar / Honduran Rosewood (carved back)
Macassar ebony fingerboard and headstock overlay
Brazilian rosewood Twelve-hole Variable Down Bearing bridge
Birdseye maple binding
~49.49mm nut
~650mm string length
~56.67mm string spacing at saddle
Side sound port
Lacquer finish
Two way truss rod
Gotoh Premium tuners
Ultratonic Pickup
Original Crossrock Fiberglass case
Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent(+); The guitar remains in beautiful shape, commensurate with its very recent year. There is a slight mark from a string change below the bridge, but the plastic guard that was in place at the time has mitigated any meaningful wear. Currently set up with a string height about 2.5mm to just below 2mm, from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief.
Additional Thoughts
The Buscarino Cabaret has been a consistently great nylon string design for many years, and judging from this 2025 model the luthier continues to elevate his work. Perhaps the standout design element of the Cabaret is its carved, arched back, this one in nicely grained Honduran rosewood. It contributes to the design goal of blending the traditional classical guitar (based on Hauser I) with the acoustic archtop guitar, to produce a modern jazz and fingerstyle instrument. It can be difficult to find a “crossover” style guitar that also delivers a fine nylon string sound, but it all can be had here, along with the contemporary Ultratonic pickup system.
