Applegate SJ Brazilian
Brian Applegate · 2015
A great example of Brian Applegate’s work, and with a very, very nice set of Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides.
Specs / Measurements
2015
Euro Spruce / Brazilian Rosewood
Brazilian rosewood bridge, truss rod cover
~1.81” nut
~26.3” to ~25” multi scale
~2.4” string spacing at saddle
Celtic design on bridge pins and tuner buttons
Arm bevel (ziricote)
Inlaid wood rosette
Soundport with binding
EVO Gold frets
Gotoh 510 tuners
Baggs pickup
Original Ameritage case
Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent(+); The guitar remains in beautiful shape, with only the lightest wear that has to be searched for. Other than a slight indent by the right hand playing area, there’s nothing else to report. Currently playing nicely, with string height just below 6/64”-4/64” from bass to treble, and light relief.
Additional Thoughts
It appears no expense was spared in designing this guitar. The first thing that may catch your eye is the striking cuts of Brazilian rosewood. The top too is a nicely selected set of Euro spruce, with no runout and good silking. A detail that will be appreciate by some is the EVO gold frets, no longer available, arranged in a multi-scale fan. Speaking of details, the Celtic theme engravings in the bridge bins and tuners add to a certain visual motif along with the rosette design. A beautiful guitar to look at, but plays and sounds satisfying as well, with the functional aspect of the multi-scale for alternate tunings or managing string tension differently.
