Water Road Akio Masuda Pulchra Crossover

2017 Water Road Pulchra Nylon Crossover

Luthiers from Japan have been an inspiration, and this Water Road Pulchra nylon string is no exception. The Pulchra model has the steel string player in mind, and has some typical “crossover” specs like a narrower neck with a familiar profile. A Water Road guitar is instantly recognizable with the design flourishes in the top, in particular at the cutaway and the tail area. Fine materials are utilized also, with this one having a dark set of Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides and a bearclaw German spruce top. Rarely seen in the US, and a beautiful guitar.

Condition / Setup Notes

The guitar is in excellent shape overall, with only a few marks discernible in the top, in raking light. There are also some polish swirls visible on the back, as the color is quite dark. It plays easily with a low string height, somewhere just below 2.5-2mm from bass to treble, with a very straight neck.

***

Guitars from Japanese luthiers can be addicting with their unique aesthetic and design sensibilities. This guitar certainly adds to that feeling. Aside from the visual details, it allures with a gentle and intimate sound.
