Tacoma DBR38 Brazilian Rosewood
2001 Tacoma DBR38 Brazilian Rosewood
Tacoma Guitars produced some high-quality, and very cool instruments in the late 90s and into the 2000s. They were made in the USA in Tacoma, WA, and all their models were made using nicely selected all solid woods. This one is particularly nice, with minimal signs of the infamous finish lifting, a colorful abalone top border, and of course the beautifully-grained Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides.
Specs / Measurements
2001
Spruce / Brazilian Rosewood, all solid construction
~1.75” / 44.5mm nut
~25.5” / 647.7mm string length
~2.16” / 54.8mm string spacing at saddle
Abalone top trim
Non-original thermoplastic hard case
Condition / Setup Notes
Very Good+, The guitar presents very cleanly, with minimal surface wear and with only the most minor signs of the typical finish issues. Very light fret wear, some pitting visible on the B string frets 1-4, and fret 1 on the high E, but nothing that affects play. Current setup is on the lower side for a dread at ~4.5/64”-3.5/64” from bass to treble, perhaps more for fingerstyle, but feeling great in this context. Light relief.
***
Tacoma had a great run and made some beautiful guitars. It’s always nice to see one of the less common models, like this DBR38. Tremendous value for a USA-made all-solid wood guitar, with a fine set of Brazilian rosewood no less.
