Tacoma AJF28 17" Archtop
2000 Tacoma AJF28C Archtop
These Tacoma archtops with paisley sound holes don’t pop up very often, and this one is especially rare with its black finish and “set neck” design with bolts set internally (as opposed to the external F-style bolt on necks that are more prevalent). In general this is a great specimen, which also includes the attractive and heavy duty Datt case (as opposed to the cheaper Tacoma branded cases they started using later on). This one has also had the pickup upgraded to a 12-pole Kent Armstrong. Also desirable is that this is one made from the pre-Fender days.

Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent; Especially in considering its age and rarity, not to mention the unforgiving black finish, the guitar remains in excellent shape with minimal signs of handling. The binding displays some discoloring here and there. The tail piece has been repaired (last picture). Currently set up with low string height of about 5/64”-4/64” from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief.
***
It’s always nice to see something different, and this Tacoma certainly falls into that category. The sound hole location enhances the bass response, which makes for a unique archtop experience. This one in particular has a lot going on, with its rarer black finish and “set neck” configuration. It has also been upgraded with a Kent Armstrong 12 pole piece humbucker, although the original EMG pickup will be included. A solid specimen
