Shinya Shikagawa Sol 14.5
2026 Shinya Shikagawa Sol 14.5
Shinya Shikagawa came to guitar building through the shop floor. He spent years on woodworking and finishing at ESP and Navigator before opening his own workshop in Eniwa, Hokkaido, in 2015. His instruments reflect that background: precise, carefully finished, and built around good timber, much of it sourced from his home island. This Sol 14.5", made of red Ezo spruce and Japanese walnut, is a great example of this sourcing ethos, and his skill in building. It’s an instrument that rewards a closer look, and it comes from a builder whose work carries a 1-2 year waiting list, and rarely reaches the US.

Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent (+); The guitar remains in beautiful shape reflective of its year. It was however exhibited and displayed at a show, and may display the slightest signs of handling. A small crack in the pickup ring, visible in the photos, has been repaired; as it is with ebony repairs, it is now basically invisible. Currently set up with string height about 4/64” - 3/64” with just a touch of relief in the neck.

I love seeing contemporary lines and feel like this. The Sol 14.5 is so appealingly thin, and aside from its good looks, sound, and playability, it’s the details that make it even more special. The arm and rib bevels consider ergonomics and comfort, while the satin shellac gives it that extra resonance along with the visual warmth. The stainless steel frets are also a nice touch, made from a softer alloy developed by the Freedom company in Japan. Just a great vibe overall, with a versatile tone palette and flexibility to match the context.
