Scot Tremblay Stauffer Style
2017 Scot Tremblay Stauffer Style
Itβs always a treat to find high quality contemporary tributes to 19th century guitars. My favorite is in the Viennese style, and this is a great find from builder Scot Tremblay in Canada. This one has some contemporary measurements that bridge the gap nicely between tradition and practicality, and still provides the feel and sound so fitting for 19th century music.
Specs / Measurements
2017
Spruce / Maple (beautifully figured one-piece back)
~49.2β nut
~640mm string length
~60mm string spacing at saddle
Clock key adjustable neck
Geared peg tuners
Hiscox case, clock key
Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent; there is only light wear in the delicate finish. Very subtle, but some color has rubbed off on the corner of the top bass side bout, right where it would rest on the player (last picture). The string height adjusts very low, which is not always the case. Currently it is about as low as it goes, with a string height from just under 2.5mm on the bass to 2.0mm on the treble. Very easily adjustable with the clock key to any height desired.
***
It can be challenging to find good examples of 19th century recreations. This one is wholly satisfying, with measurements that keep things familiar-feeling while adding an old world vibe to the repertoire. As might be expected, the trebles are especially nice, and pop beautifully. An exquisite specimen.
