Michael Kennedy Concert

2023 Michael Kennedy Concert

The Concert model from Canadian luthier Michael Kennedy was the first model developed on his own as a luthier, and it's remained a cornerstone of his lineup. Kennedy came to guitar building by way of a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell and an apprenticeship under Sergei de Jonge, and that pairing of engineering rigor and old-world craft is apparent in his work.

Excellent(+); There is no wear to reasonably note on this guitar, and it remains in beautiful shape. Currently set up with string height about 6/64” - 4/64” from bass to treble, with a touch of relief.

***

There’s a lot to love about this guitar, from its clean, pared down aesthetic, to its dynamic and articulate sound. A testament to the builder’s commitment, the guitar also integrates a tournavoz, added to lower the main body resonance in response to the structured sides and soundport (which both act to raise the main body resonance). The construction choices are also nice, with a magnetic truss rod cover and pinless bridge. A thoughtfully engineered guitar, with an appealing sound and good playability.
