Condition / Setup Notes
Excellent; The guitar is in extremely clean shape, and there is virtually no discernible surface wear. There is, however, a paint touch up on the back, which is fairly inconspicuous but at certain angles the light makes it pop (see pictures). Shown in the last picture, it doesn’t pertain to its condition but there are two cracks in the top that appear to have existed at the time of construction; I imagine that Melancon did not want to waste such a high quality top so they selected a good color that they could work with. They did a great job. It’s hard to see the actual cracks, but in raking light you can see the finish has sunk into the cracks. Still subtle. Currently set up with very low string height, about 3/64”-2/64” from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief. I had to double check the measurements, I’m amazed by how cleanly it still plays at this low action— a testament to the builder’s skill.
***
A very nice guitar, and beautifully appointed. The quilt top is impressively figured, with crisp, three dimensional grain lines viewable from every angle. As mentioned in the setup notes, the string height is notably low but imminently playable still, and there is a good versatility in tonal options from the three pickup / coil tap configuration. Even the case is nice, a cream / tan tolex G and G.
