Matt Rubendall Seven String Classical

2025 Matt Rubendall Seven String Classical

A very nice seven string classical from Brooklyn luthier Matt Rubendall. A notable design feature is the adjustable neck system, allowing for string height changes under tension.

Condition / Setup Notes

New / Excellent; The guitar has never been owned, but has been to some shows and displays light wear. Currently set up with string height about 3.5mm to 3mm, but easily adjusted to preference with the neck mechanism. Just a touch of relief in the neck.

***

An excellent guitar, with strong trebles to match the extra heft in the lower range. Of the notable functional design features, the adjustable neck stands out. Inspired by Stauffer, the mechanism adjusts the neck angle in actuality, but in effect changes the string height. It’s a liberating experience to be able to make these adjustments on the fly. The thoughtful use of an oil finish for the neck is also nice, and provides a smooth and pleasant feel. The neck is also elevated, which aids in upper fret access. Nice choice of tuners, Gilbert, and a first time for me to see hippo ivory used for the nut and saddle. I love the builder’s signature headstock treatment, the instantly recognizable series of concentric circles in relief.
