Masaru Kohno Special Classical

1987 Masaru Kohno Special Classical

A beautiful-sounding player’s condition Kohno Special. During this era, the Special model was surpassed only by the Maestro model; even then, it was merely a difference in the age of the tone woods. This one has its original Rodgers tuners, and a custom rosette and diamond side marker.

Condition / Setup Notes

Very Good(-) / Good(+); The guitar is in structurally sound condition, with no cracks or evidence of repairs. It is however cosmetically in a player’s condition, with wear overall, consistent with an instrument of this age that has been well-played. The last pictures give an idea of the wear. There are a few spots where it looks like dings were drop-filled, and the evidence remains. The string path, however, is very well maintained, with a clean fretboard and no wear in the frets. String height is at an easy ~3mm to ~2.25mm from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief.

***

The top tier models from Kohno consistently impress, and this one is no exception. From the fineness of materials to the beauty of sound and ease of playability, all things come together here. This Special also features some custom appointments, like the uniquely patterned wood rosette and the single diamond fret marker on the side of the fingerboard. A great value for a very nice instrument, given the played-in condition.
