Martin D-28 Merle Travis Commemorative

2008 Martin D-28 Merle Travis Commemorative

This is a Merle Travis Commemorative D28 limited edition, one of 100. The whole story, better than I can tell it, is here from an old Harmony Central release.

Specs / Measurements

  • 2008

  • Adirondack spruce / Madagascar rosewood

  • Curly maple neck with figured walnut head plate

  • ~1.69” nut

  • ~25.5” string length

  • ~2.08” string spacing at saddle

  • Deck of cards inlays on fretboard

  • Gotoh Kluson-style tuners

  • Martin-branded electronics, vol / tone control in sound hole

  • Original Martin hard case

Condition / Setup Notes

The guitar remains in excellent (+) condition, with hardly any wear. In raking light there is some wear visible in the treble waist where it would rest on a player’s leg, but light enough for buffing. Light scratching on the pick guard. It is difficult to note anything else. The strap button has been removed and the hole plugged with a piece of maple, but easily reversible by adding a strap pin back. Original specs don’t mention electronics, but it has a Martin-branded volume / tone control in the sound hole. String height is fairly low, just above 4/64” and just below 4/64” from bass to treble, and of course suited for fingerstyle. Minimal relief, feels great.

***

Maybe one of the more unique offerings from Martin as far as artist models go. Aside from it being a very nice guitar in very nice shape, I would be hard pressed to describe it better than this old release from Harmony Central.
