Judy Threet Model D OM
c2000s Judy Threet Model D OM
Now a rarity, here’s an OM sized model D from Canadian luthier Judy Threet.
Specs / Measurements
c2000s
Spruce / EIR
~1.69” nut width
~25.4” string length
~2.19” string spacing at saddle
~15.25” lower bout
~3.5” to ~4.5” body depth from heel to tail
Schaller tuners
Original arched top hard case
Condition / Setup Notes
Very Good(+); The guitar shows various light wear commensurate with its age and of a guitar that has been played in its life. It however presents very cleanly and retains its overall luster, and most of the wear is not too conspicuous without raking light. The tail has been drilled out for a pickup or end pin, but it is currently open. There is fairly slight fret wear. Set up nicely at the moment, with string height about 5/64” - 4/64” from bass to treble, and very minimal relief.
***
Threet guitars are a rarity, they do not surface very often since the luthier’s retirement. With an emphasis on hand-work, Judy Threet’s guitars are meticulously constructed and voiced. She still maintains a website here with some information about her approach and guitars. This body size could be considered a sort of hybrid OM / D, with the depth of a D but lower bout width of an OM. To my ears it succeeds in this design and maintains the articulation of an OM but with an added bass or depth. The luthier’s work made a splash recently, when Tracy Chapman played a Threet guitar during her Grammy performance.
