Eastman T-145SM SP Custom 15” Archtop

c2011 Eastman T-145SM SP 15” Custom / Prototype

Possibly the coolest guitar I’ve ever seen from Eastman: it’s an ultra thin rimmed fully carved, hollow, all solid acoustic archtop! It must be a one-off or prototype of some kind, I’ve never seen another like it. I am speculating that it is the product of a licensing collaboration with an independent luthier, that did not end up going into production.

Condition / Setup Notes

Very good(+) / Excellent(-), There is light wear on this guitar, but given the rarity and cool factor, I’m inclined to feel it leans more toward excellent condition. Some examples of wear are included in the last pictures. The Bartolini is likely a replacement, but has been installed seamlessly and could be regarded as an upgrade. Same for the case, which is a Reunion Blues bag/case. The string height is currently just above and just below 4/64” from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief, and playing nicely.

***

What can I say, I just fell in love with this guitar. To me it resembles a certain maker’s style, but otherwise it is such a unique specimen. The first thing that stands out is the thinness of the body, with rims only 1.25” deep, then the surprise to see the deep arches and to know it is fully carved. It has a very nice acoustic sound. Clear, and surprisingly big. The Bartolini pickup also sounds great. Maybe it’s just me, but I think this guitar is a little heartbreaker that you may also fall in love with.
