There are varied reports out there in the research for this model. In general the Aria DQ models were known to have been made with solid tops, but pressed, not carved. There has been some suggestion that the Solo was rough carved by computer and then fine tuned by hand; if there is truth to this I think this Solo would be one of those examples. One thing that is apparent is the arch in the top and back are more prominent than on, for example, the Centura model. The difference is quite stark, and most visible from the comparative curvatures of the bridge bases. The interior maple is figured as well, which may indicate something. The most subjective aspect is the sound, which I find to be remarkably good, perhaps another indicator of its construction. Even if it is a pressed arch with laminate maple like is most commonly noted, it’s one of the best examples of the Aria D’Aquisto tributes that I’ve encountered, and it’s always nice to have a uniquely and historically styled instrument on hand just to look at from time to time.
