D’Angelico NYS-2 14.5” Archtop

2002 D’Angelico NYS-2 14.5”

This is a bit of a rarity from the Vestax era of D’angelico: an “old-style” NYS-2 with the original body shape and 14.5” lower bout width. A very cool compact New Yorker style guitar, fully acoustic with a floating pickup.

Specs / Measurements

  • 2002

  • Solid pressed top / laminated body

  • ~1.68” nut

  • ~24.75” string length

  • ~2.04” string spacing at saddle

  • 14.5” lower bout x 2.75” rims

  • Split block pearl inlay

  • Original-design floating pickup with volume / tone

  • Grover Tuners

  • Original “alligator skin” case

Condition / Setup Notes

The guitar remains in very good(+) shape, with scattered typical wear. It presents fairly cleanly overall, with most flaws not too conspicuous without raking light. String height is just below 5/64”-4/64” from bass to treble, with just light relief.

***

In the world of Vestax D’angelico, one could say this is a bit of a sought-after model. The NYS-2 specs went through a revision at some point, resulting in a different body shape with a wider lower bout. This one was made before the revisions, and maintains the original shape (kind of GB-10ish?), with the 14.5’ lower bout. Outside of its rarity within the Vestax lineup, it’s always nice to find a fully hollow acoustic archtop in this size. Although not carved, the top is solid and it produces a good unplugged sound as well.
