D’Angelico NYL-2 Custom 17” Archtop
2000s D’angelico NYL-2 Custom
The NYL-2 Custom is a rarer cousin to the standard NYL-2. While the regular models featured pressed solid tops and 5-ply backs and sides, the Custom models, like this one, featured a CNC carved solid top and 1-play backs and sides. I find this one to have very nicely figured woods, and the back especially striking.

Condition / Setup Notes
Although as shown in the pictures there are some areas of heavier wear, the guitar overall is in very good condition. Hard to capture in photos is a slight blushing in the headstock finish that can be seen from certain angles and lighting. The frets display very little wear, if any, and are dressed nicely. The string height is a low and comfortable 4/64"-3/64" with a little bit of relief. The saddle piece I believe is a replacement, although a welcome one: it is a compensated bone saddle set into an ebony piece.
***
These Japanese D’Angelico reproductions are great guitars, and this one is a touch of class. The finish and wood selection give it a look of distinction, and the carved top adds to its acoustic appeal. A thank you to That Rhythm Man for additional detail on the specs.
