Burton Legeyt CLM

2015 Burton Legeyt CLM

Burton Legeyt’s instruments have been a revelation, and I’m glad to have this 2015 CLM come through. They are notably lightweight and lively guitars, with an aesthetic and sensibility that is inspired by 19th century guitars.

Condition / Setup Notes

Excellent (+); The guitar remains in beautiful shape, with only spare light wear evident when searching for it in raking light. Some of the black dye on the back of the neck has faded. The guitar recently was back in the Legeyt shop for a tune up, so it is in great playing shape as well. The back edge of the bridge was also reglued at this time; there is very spare evidence but it’s one of those things that could easily go unnoticed. String height currently about 5/64”-4/64” from bass to treble with light relief in the neck.

***

Legeyt guitars have a lot going on, and are characteristically lightweight, responsive, and lively. In fact, I’d refer you to his website to get the full effect of the design work that goes into his instruments. In addition to the structural elements that contribute to the Legeyt sound, the aesthetic is wholly unique and draws inspiration from 19th century elements, for example visible in the rosette, the black-dyed neck, and binding only the top. This is one of those full-package guitars, that brings together sound, playability, and visual design with equal and careful consideration. Also nice is the included Visesnut case, another instance that all aspects of design were carefully considered; my favorite case manufacturer at this time, bringing together protection, lightweight, and also a great balanced feel when carried. What’s more, Burton Legeyt is not accepting orders at this time, with the soonest orders projected to be completed in 2027 or 2028.
