Bouchereau Loic Bortot MJC
2019 Bouchereau MJC Mini Jumbo (15.4”)
A very nice guitar from the workshop of Loic Bortot in Quebec City. This MJC, or Mini Jumbo, sounds as big as any larger guitar. To me, the standout qualities are a deep resonant bass and long sustain. The quality of the Cocobolo is notable also, beautifully colored and straight-grained.

The guitar remains in excellent (+) condition, with minimal surface wear to be found, if any. There are only minor imperfections to the finish, like the small bubble in the binding and the scuffing shown in the last two pictures. The saddle is nice and tall with a string height of ~6/64”-4/64” and light relief.
***
To me this shines as a fingerstyle guitar. It has a depth to the basses and overall sound, and a long sustain. The details are excellent, including the magnetic truss rod cover and slightly elevated fingerboard. I typically appreciate some kind of consideration for where the right arm rests, and in this case it’s a nicely executed bevel that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. I’ll mention the woods again, really nicely selected pieces that culminate in a very musical instrument.
