Bosquet OM “Square”
2026 Bosquet OM “Square”
The most recent work from luthier Ryosuke Kobayashi of Bosquet Guitars was such a thrill. It was sold before I was even able to photograph it, and the new owner was gracious enough to give me a moment to take the pictures on this page. It is entitled “Square,” based on its 90° cutaway, and square orientation to the partial sound hole cover inside the body. To round out the theme, the fret board side inlays are squares, with an angular figure at the twelfth fret. The theme is also echoed in the headstock. The cutaway area bends away, and an image is created that the treble side of the body has been slightly pulled apart from the bass side; this creates the ridge that extends down the back.

It was such a pleasure and privilege to have this guitar for the short time it was here. Everything about it is refreshing, from the lines to the sound. The trebles have a strength and clarity that make it easy and intuitive to bring out melodies, and they have a pliability in their feel that almost reminds me of playing a nylon string. The basses were balanced well against these, and there is a notable sense of clarity in the voices. The layered, architectural details of its construction are a marvel. It’s one of those guitars that intricacies of the design work and execution can be fully appreciated, because it functions first as a musical instrument so beautifully. The feeling I am left with is that I can hardly wait for the next Bosquet guitar.
