2009 Martin D45 Custom Short Scale

This is a unique custom short scale D45, possibly the only one of its kind given all the specs that come together. The short scale is functionally the biggest detail, although it also has some nice visuals with a three-piece back with mahogany wedge, and a subtle burst that the original spec sheet designates as “special.” Along with the burst, a top with no run out was specifically selected for this guitar, and both approved by Custom Shop manager Ed Golden.

Condition / Setup Notes

Excellent (+); The guitar overall remains in very clean shape. There is only light minimal wear that is only apparent in raking light. It has been very well taken care of. String height is currently about 6/64”-4/64” from bass to treble with light relief in the neck. Playing nicely.

A very cool custom iteration of the classic D45. Possibly the most prominent feature is the shorter scale, which has been popularized in recent years by the great Billy Strings. It may be the first 45-style I’ve seen with this string length. The materials on this one were given extra consideration, with the order sheet indicating a top with no run out, and a special burst (the shop manager at the time, Ed Golden, is shown as signing off on these specs). The burst is very subtle, and a nice touch to bring out the beautifully grained top. The back is also quite unique, and features a mahogany wedge making it a three-piece back. To top things off, the guitar comes with a factory-installed Fishman Aura. If you’ve ever wanted a short scale dread with 45 style trim, here it is!
