Collings OM1JL Julian Lage

2018 Collings OM1JL Julian Lage

The OM1JL is the product of a long collaboration with Bill Collings. They worked to replicate one of Lage’s main guitars, a 1939 Martin 00018. One of the most appealing features of this guitar may be its neck, which was carefully modeled after this 00018 with a distinctive taper and asymmetry that had worn into it after its many years.

Condition / Setup Notes

Very Good(+); The guitar overall is in nice shape, with only minimal surface wear. Very light fret wear in typical lower positions. Light scratching on pickguard. It looks like the bridge was possibly reglued at some point; the back edge is totally adhered to the top with no gaps, but there is some wear in the top by the bridge corners, that indicate the possibility of work. There are no issues here. Currently set up with string height about 6/64'“-4/64” from bass to treble, with light relief in the neck.

***

This signature model is a great success from Collings. The neck profile is nice on the left hand, and the satin finish is appealing. To my ears there is an immediacy of sound, with a broad dynamic range.
